Sheriff Lori M. Streeter was appointed as Interim Sheriff of Franklin County, Massachusetts by Governor Maura Healey in January 2025. She serves as the first female Sheriff to be appointed in this county’s history. With over 35 years of dedicated service at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and House of Corrections, she combines her decades of operational knowledge with a strong belief in treating incarcerated individuals with dignity and offering them real chances for change.

Beginning her career in 1985 as a Correctional Officer, Sheriff Streeter advanced through the ranks to become Superintendent and Special Sheriff in 2014. In that role, she oversaw operations of a 320-bed facility and led a team of 250 employees.

A strong advocate for its evidence-based rehabilitation, the Sheriff’s office has been nationally recognized for its cutting-edge mental health and substance use treatment within the justice system. She was a driving force in the development of the Franklin County Community Justice Support Center and Re-Entry Center and has led innovative re-entry programming aimed at reducing recidivism and supporting successful transitions back into the community. Her re-entry philosophy is centered on reducing recidivism and ensuring people have positive support systems when they return home.

Sheriff Streeter is known for being staff-focused, promoting wellness initiatives for all employees, and supporting professional development and training of all types centered around a modern trauma-informed approach. Sheriff Streeter has contributed to professional development within the field, serving as Chair of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Women in Criminal Justice Conference, Co-Chair of the Franklin County Opioid Task Force and previously as Chair of the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association Education and Training Committee. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Social Work from Westfield State College.
