Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan was the guest speaker for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections (DOC) Academy graduation held on May 18.
In his remarks, Sheriff Donelan walked those in attendance through the dramatic changes in corrections over the past decade and expressed that corrections is "where the rubber meets the road" when we talk about public safety and reducing crime. He expressed the support from the Sheriffs to the Department of Corrections in their common mission to treat addiction, trauma and mental illness.
"You are not on an island doing this work," Sheriff Donelan said. "Across 13 counties there are corrections officers showing up for work every day doing the same job, trying to achieve the same goals."
The DOC graduated 50 new officers from their most recent academy. Sheriff Donelan shared the stage with Commissioner Carol Mici and Shawn Jenkins, the Chief of Staff for the DOC.
