Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Western Massachusetts Council of Boy Scouts of America.
This prestigious award recognizes his outstanding contributions to the community and his transformative work in helping individuals transition successfully from correctional facilities.
The award follows in the footsteps of Sheriff Cocchi’s predecessor and mentor, retired Sheriff Michael J. Ashe Jr., who was honored 15 years ago for his groundbreaking approach to corrections that set a new standard nationwide.
This accolade not only celebrates Sheriff Cocchi's exceptional achievements in law enforcement but also his unwavering dedication to community service and his involvement in numerous local initiatives.
“I am humbled and honored to be recognized by a group that shares the same ideals as the Sheriff’s Office as we work to make our community a better place, one person at a time,” said Sheriff Cocchi. “But this award is really recognition of my staff, as they work day after day to empower people to help themselves, their families and all of Western Massachusetts in the process.”
Sheriff Cocchi appeared on WWPL's 'Mass Appeal" with host Patrick Berry and Art Lobdell from the Boy Scouts of Western Massachusetts Scouting to talk about the award.
