More than 4,000 new winter coats were distributed to individuals in Worcester County thanks to the Worcester County Sheriff's Office's annual coat drive.
A kick-off event back in early October helped raise thousands of dollars, which was used to purchase warm winter coats for community members in need.
“The Sheriff’s Office's Winter coat drive is an exemplary model of how a community should work together to address an issue," Worcester County Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis said. "As recipients tell us, these coats represent so much more than a winter jacket, they represent a community that cares."
This year’s coat distributions took place in late October to ensure recipients had a warm coat for the upcoming winter months. The Sheriff’s Office and volunteers spent several days traveling to more than 20 organizations directly distributing the new coats to those in need.
